Guwahati: Pertaining to the Assam-Mizoram inter-district border clash, AIUDF Supremo Badaruddin Ajmal met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with Sonai MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya in order to discuss long term solutions for the border conflict.

The AIUDF Supremo in a tweet said, "Today I have met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji along with Sonai MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya regarding the recent Assam-Mizoram border conflict. We submitted a memorandum explaining the historical background of Assam-Mizoram border from British era and how there has been"

Taking a keen interest in the matter, Ajmal discussed various points regarding the decades-old conflict of 'border-encroachment' with the Union Home Minister and urged the central government to bring the matter under control so that no more lives are lost in this dreaded conflict.

The AIUDF Supremo further discussed the historical issues with the neighboring state of Mizoram and said that it is a conflict that has been ongoing right from the British era.

Earlier in July, at least six persons were killed and 60 others, including an SP, injured in a bloody clash along the Assam-Mizoram border.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier spoke to the chief ministers of Assam and Mizoram, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Zoramthanga respectively, and urged them to ensure peace along the disputed border and find an amicable settlement.

It may be mentioned that Mizoram, which was previously called the Lushai Hills, was carved out of Greater Assam as a Union territory in 1972 before being given the status of a full-fledged state in 1987. Assam and Mizoram share a total of 164.6 km border that include Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts on Assam's part while Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl districts of Mizoram. Tension along the inter-state border of the two states has been escalating since October last year, with frequent incidents of arson and encroachment of land.
