AIUDF Voting For Ripun Bora For Sonia Gandhi, Not For Bhupen Borah: Sirajuddin Ajmal

Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Sirajuddin Ajmal Thursday informed that they are voting for Ripun Bora at the Rajya Sabha polls only for the Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and not for Bhupen Borah.

''We are voting for Ripun Bora and that is final. It is not because of Bhupen Borah as we don't consider him as an important factor. The only reason we are still voting for Ripun Bora is because of Madam Sonia Gandhi,'' Ajmal added.

Meanwhile, Congress has accused the AIUDF of having an unofficial alliance with the BJP, and following this, the party would vote for the candidates fielded by the BJP-led alliance.

However, AIUDF has denied all the allegations and asked its MLAs to vote for the joint candidate fielded by the AIUDF, Congress, CPI (M), and Raijor Dal.

He further said that in a bid to prevent cross-voting, all their 15 MLAs will visit the polling stations together.

He asserted that all the allegations made by Congress MLAs as well as APCC president Bhupen Bora will be proven wrong after the results are out.

Meanwhile, the vote of Siddique Ahmed (MLA of 4 no Karimganj-South LAC) has become invalid as instead of writing a numerical digit 1, he wrote it alphabetically.

Mentioning the numerical digit 1 alphabetically resulted in the vote being invalid amounting to indiscipline and violating the Three Line Whip of the party.
