Guwahati: Putting all speculations to rest, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has informed that former Assam minister and Congress MLA from Golaghat Ajanta Neog and Congress MLA from Lakhipur Rajdeep Goala would be joining the saffron party on Tuesday (December 29).

A joing meeting has been organized in this regard in BJP's headquarters in Hengrabari on Tuesday at around 11 am.

Both the leaders will be joing BJP in the meeting in presence of State's BJP President Ranjit Kumar Dass.

With the two Congress MLAs all set to join the BJP, the number of Congress legislators in the Assam Assembly will reduce to 22 from 24.The demise of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Congress MLA from Sibasagar Pranab Gogoi would further pull the number down to 20. This could put Congress leader Debabrata Saikia's position as the Leader of Opposition under question.

Earlier this week Ajanta Neog said, "When I was in Congress, I was in party discipline and hence I was not able to express my views clearly. Now I have left that party and will make join BJP within one or two days."

Meanwhile, on Friday (December25) Congress had expelled Ajanta Neog from its primary membership for "indulging in anti-party activities". She was served with a show-cause notice by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) asking her to explain her stand on the reports in a section of the media that she was planning to join the BJP.The APCC asked her to give reply on this on or before December 25.

However, on December 26 she confirmed her joining in the saffron party during the Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Guwahati.

The MLAs met Union Home Minister on Saturday.

The election to the 126-member Assam Assembly is likely to take place in March-April next year.
