Guwahati: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gearing up for the 2021 Assembly elections in the key battleground state of Assam, the saffron party seems to have set its sights on further bolstering its ranks by luring senior leaders from other parties.
Now, rumour has it that the BJP has 3 senior Congress MLAs in its sights: Ajanta Neog, Rekibuddin Ahmed and Roselina Tirkey. While Neog represents Golaghat, Tirkey represents Sarupathar (Dhansiri) Constituency, and Ahmed represents the Chaygaon Constituency.
With the election still a long way away, these are some of the first reports that are being circulated in some sections of the media. Although the veracity of these reports cannot be verified at this point of time, the coming months are sure to be a rollercoaster ride -- with the BJP seeking to secure its position and win another term, with the Congress and its allies breathing down their backs.
Already, BJP's State Unit President Ranjeet Dass has established that the party seeks to claim as many as 100 seats for itself. At the same time, allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) will also be seeking a piece of the election pie and seat-sharing is also bound to be one of the most interesting aspects in this coming election.
