GOLAGHAT: The activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Golaghat Town Committee burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday at Batapoint of Golaghat town in protest against price hike of essential commodities and for the 'anti-farmer' policies of the government.

The AJYCP activists raised various slogans against the Union Government as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking part in the protest, Golaghat district committee general secretary Nikunja Medhi criticized the Narendra Modi-led BJP government for failing to check the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities. Further, he said that the Central Government wanted to bring a policy which would be against the interest of the farmers.

Also, commodities like rice, dal and oil seeds had been excluded from the essential food category. The AJYCP demanded immediate control in the price hike of essential commodities and immediate withdrawal of 'anti-farmer' policies.
