GOLAGHAT: The activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Golaghat district committee blocked the Dibrugarh- Rangia train at Furkating railway station in Golaghat district on Thursday in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and demanded inner line permit and dual citizenship in Assam.

The activists shouted various slogans against the Narendra Modi government and the Sarbananda Sonowal government. Later, a protest meeting was held under the leadership of Nikunja Medhi, general secretary of Golaghat AJYCP. AJYCP central committee joint secretary Jitul Rajkhowa said that BJP government should scrap the controversial Bill. This Bill would never be accepted as it would destroy Assamese literature, culture, tradition, economic and education system. He also said that dual citizenship had been their long-pending demand.

“AJYCP has since long been demanding inner line permit and dual citizenship in Assam. But the government did not take any initiative to fulfil the demand. The people of Assam have been affected due to non-availability of dual citizenship and inner line permit. To provide safeguard to the indigenous people of Assam, dual citizenship and inner line permit should be granted. Both are important for a State like Assam,” he said.
