DOOMDOOMA: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Doomdooma Anchalik Committee, in a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam, urged the government to permanently solve the flood and erosion problem of the greater Doomdooma area of Tinsukia district that lies between 125 No. Doomdooma LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) and 126 No. Sadiya LAC.

In the memorandum they stated that since the breach of Dirak-Sumoni dyke in 1992, the small channel known as 'Anantanala' took the shape of a big river over the period of time as the water of the River Brahmaputra was diverted southward to flow through it and consequently, its flood water inundates about 20 revenue villages right from Dholla, Laopani to Laina, Rangajan, Tamuli and Dhulijan. Also, it causes erosion and has eroded away about one-third of the Simalugiri Bajrapur Xatra, besides playing havoc to a good number of villages rendering many villagers homeless.

They alleged that the fund that was sanctioned for repair of the dykes and flood protection measures were not properly utilized and thus it got siphoned off.
