LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) took to the streets resuming its stir against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) on Wednesday. The activists of the organization on Wednesday evening took out a torchlight rally in North Lakhimpur town demanding the repeal of the contentious Act and introduction of the Inner Line Permit in Assam to safeguard the indigenous communities of Assam.
By initiating the protest programme, the Lakhimpur district unit of AJYCP declared that the organization would never approve of the contentious Act, which would allegedly impact the culture, language, economics and politics of the State. The organization strongly demanded the Union Government to repeal the Act immediately. AJYCP central committee vice-president Hemchandra Goswami, assistant general secretary Sourabh Das and other leaders of the regional committees were present in the programme. The protesters flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union and State governments by shouting a number of slogans against the Act.
