NAGAON: The district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad on Thursday staged a three-hour long sit-in in front of the office of Nagaon Deputy Commissioner here against the open fire by miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh a couple of days back along the inter-state boundary of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh near Joirampur Panbari in the Dhemaji district.
The district body of the youth organization demanded a high-level probe into the entire incident and also sought monetary compensation to the families of the victims. Over 100 protesters from the youths’ organization participated in the stir.
During the agitation, Pragjyotish Bonia and Debashish Das, the president and secretary respectively of the organization, condemned the incident and also asserted that due to negligence of the central government towards the years-long boundary dispute between Assam and other north-eastern states, many Assamese people had to lose their lives over the years.
The leaders of the organization urged the State Government to ensure monetary compensation immediately to the families of those victims who lost their lives or are undergoing treatment after being injured in the firing. The organization also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the DC, Nagaon in this regard. Diganta Das, central executive of the organization also participated in the stir.
