SILCHAR : Assam University, Silchar, saw a massive demonstration on Friday by the saffron student wing of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in protest against the failure of the authority to publish the results in due time. Alleging malpractices, the ABVP demanded the expulsion of the Controller of Examinations. More than 2500 students from various colleges in the valley assembled at the main gate of the Assam University, Silchar, amid scorching heat. The protest began with a march towards the main gate, despite efforts by the security personnel to bar their way. Later inside the administrative block, the agitating students created a tumultuous scene encircling the building.

The ABVP cadres alleged that Suprabir Dutta Roy, the Controller of Examinations, had transformed the institute into a ‘Private Limited Company’. The unnecessary delay in declaring the results had left the students unable to take admission to other universities outside the state. Apart from their fury against the Controller, the students’ demands included the establishment of a Skill Development Centre and a Digital Library on the university campus. However, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, later pacified the students, assuring them that the authority would seriously look into the matter.
