Akhil Gogoi Announces Protest Against Assam's new Cattle Preservation Act

GUWAHATI: Independent MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi announced a stir against the new Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021.

Gogoi, on Friday, addressed a press conference and announced his protest programme. Alleging that the new Act would badly hit the farmers of the state, the Independent MLA said that they would launch a protest against it from September 3 from Jonai, Dhemaji.

"The Assam Chief Minister is doing a communal politics. His communal politics will cost dearly our indigenous farmers who have already suffered due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. We will strongly protest the new Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, " he added.

Gogoi also said that the new Act is a massive blow to the economically weaker section. "We have seen that economically weaker sections of the society like farmers, small businessmen, among others suffered a lot due to the ongoing pandemic. Instead of extending help to these people, the government has brought this Act which is a massive blow to them", he said.

It could be mentioned that Akhil Gogoi announced his protest program since his election to the state assembly.

The Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021 Prohibits:

> Transport of cattle from or through Assam

> Sale and consumption of beef or beef products in areas predominantly inhabited by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and others

> Sale and consumption of beef or beef products within a 5-km radius of any temple, Satra, or other Hindu religious institutions

> Slaughter of cattle without permission from the competent authority.
