SILCHAR: Algapur MLA Nizamuddin Chowdhury, arrested in charge of beating a person inside the Katakhal police outpost and vandalising a car, will move the Hailakandi Chief Judicial Magistrate Court tomorrow for bail. Chowdhury, who was arrested on Wednesday and later shifted to Civil Hospital as his blood sugar level shot up abnormally, told the mediaperson on Thursday that he had been falsely fabricated in the case as he raised his voice against the police nexus with the Burmese supari syndicate. He pointed fingers at RP Rogmei, the officer in charge of Panchgram police station.

Nizamuddin Chowdhury, along with four other people, allegedly chased a local BJP worker, Ataur Rahman Laskar, who later took shelter inside the Katakhal police outpost. Nijam and his accomplices allegedly entered the outpost and beat Ataur. The incident happened at midnight on Tuesday. Both Ataur and the Katakhal police filed FIRs against AIUDF MLA Chowdhury. On Wednesday afternoon, Nizamuddin was summoned to the Hailakandi PS, where SP Leena Doley interrogated him. Later, the MLA was arrested, as Doley stated that, in spite of being a lawmaker, Nizamuddin Chowdhury broke the law himself. He was later produced at a lower court, which sent him to jail.
