Haflong: The All Apex Body Coordination Committee (AABCC), a conglomeration of at least 11 communities living in Dima Hasao, criticized the district administration for its utter failure to find out the whereabouts of kidnapped Santosh Hojai even after 90 hours of his abduction by some unidentified gunmen from his house at Harangajao.
In a press conference held at the office of the Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU), general secretary of Dimasa Students’ Union, Pramith Sengyung said, “It is really a matter of shock that during the nationwide lockdown when not a single vehicle is allowed to ply, kidnapping was carried out by a group of gunmen in a Bolero vehicle. This has compelled us to say that it was a total failure of the administration to find any clue with regard to the daring abduction.”
Frezer Sengyung of Jadikhe Naisho Hosom (JNH), Dimasa apex body, said “We have suffered a lot in the recent past and peace has returned back to this district with the efforts of all the people and administration. Now nobody wants further disturbance in the peace and tranquility of the district but the abduction of Santosh Hojai of Harangajao has raised many eyebrows since the incident of abduction was carried out at a time when the entire nation was under lockdown. According to another statement of the victim’s wife, the Officer in-charge of Harangajao Police Station refused to lodge the FIR when she approached within half an hour of her husband’s abduction. Instead, the Officer in-charge assured that her husband would be home the next day. But he has not yet reached home. Had the Officer in-charge of the police station acted swiftly to trace the miscreants as soon he received the complaint from the victim’s wife, the incident could have been averted.”
The All Apex Bodies Co-Ordination Committee (AABCC) had met the Superintendent of Police of Dima Hasao and submitted memorandum urging immediate intervention for the victim’s safe release.
Meanwhile, the DSU warned that if the administration failed to ensure the release of Santosh Hojai, then DSU would be bound to go for stronger agitation and the DSU could not be held responsible for any situation.
Debashis Mandal, secretary of Kalaigaon AABYSF, said, “Social distancing cannot be enforced by force. If people are not aware and conscious, we can never win the battle against COVID-19.” He urged the authority concerned to close such Seva Kendras during the lockdown.
