All Assam Gorkha Students' Union celebrates Tihar festival

JAMUGURIHAT:  The regional committee of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) Sootea committee, in association with Himalay Youth Committee and Brahmaputra group, had organized Tihar festival at Tewaril, Sootea under Biswanath district on November 30 with pomp and gaiety.

SachinThapa, the president of Sootea AAGSU, hoisted the institutional flag while Kabiraj Kharka lit up the earthen lamps followed by offering of floral tributes by Ajit Dhakal, secretary of Sootea AAGSU, and Damudar Subedi. A Deusi Bhaile competition was held amongst various groups. A meeting was held following the competition with Chandra Dutta Chetry, a retired teacher, in the chair. Dalmohan Chetry, retired headmaster of Siporiya HS, inaugurated the meeting. Dilip Gajurel, vice-president of the central committee AAGSU, addressed the gathering as an appointed speaker. He raised some burning issues of the Gorkha community along with tracing the origin and spiritual values of the Tihar festival.

A special felicitation programme was carried out wherein Padma Dhakal, a veteran writer, Moti Kumar Newar, newly-elected GDC member, Dilip Gajurel, newly-elected vice-president of AAGSU central committee, and Prakash Khanal were felicitated.
