All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), AJYCP continue protest in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji

LAKHIMPUR: Extensive protest against the brutal killing of two Assamese persons by Arunanchali miscreants on June 5 at Panbari under Joyrampur area of Dhemaji district continued for the fifth day in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

On Friday, the Bordoloni regional unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) initiated ‘Bikshyobh’ at Bordoloni Chariali of Dhemaji district in association with various organizations like Bordoloni regional units of Deuri Students’ Union, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Chutia Students’ Union, Anusuchit Jati Students’ Union. Dhemaji AASU president Sanjib Das, general secretary Jayanta Borgohain, advisers Dipak Sarmah, Biju Das, central committee information secretary Manturaj Baruah, central committee executive member Rahib Gogoi and dignitaries, members of other organizations took part in the stir.

Taking part in the protest programme, Dhemaji district AASU president Sanjib Das demanded Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to declare judiciary inquiry into the heinous incident and to disclose the names, addresses and photographs of the five miscreants who were arrested by the Arunachal Pradesh Police because of being involved in the killing of the two Assamese persons.

By staging the protest programme, Bordoloni regional AASU submitted a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister with six-fold demands, including demands to compensation and government jobs for the victims family, to resolve the border dispute permanently, to provide medical expenses and onetime financial aids to the injured persons.

On the other hand, Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), in association with the Lakhimpur district units of Gorkha Students’ Union, Sodou Asom Kaibarta Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, Anusuchit Jati Yuva Chatra Parishad, All Adivasi Students’ Union of Assam, All Assam Chutiya Students’ Union initiated sit-in demonstration at Harmoti on Wednesday as part of their continuous stir regarding the issue. Lakhimpur district unit AJYCP also submitted a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister demanding adequate compensation, government job to each family of the murdered person and financial assistance to each of the injured persons. The organization also demanded the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to hand over the arrested five miscreants, who were involved in the brutal incident.

Notably, two persons were killed and two others injured when a group of unidentified men coming from Arunanchal Pradesh opened fire in the Panbari area of Dhemaji district on Monday. The two men who died were identified as Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi. The two injured persons, Puspa Gogoi and Akoni Gohain, were admitted to the hospital and being treated. Police said that Boga Chutia was a resident of Borbila Chutiakari village while the other three were from Milonpur village under Dhemaji district. Reports said that the victims were among those who had gone to a location along the inter-state boundary to make arrangements for a plantation drive to mark World Environment Day when they came under fire.
