JORHAT: The Jorhat unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Friday staged a demonstration at Oil India Limited's Pumping Station 3 at Charigaon here in protest against the oil company's recruitment policy.
On July 1, the oil major had advertised seeking applications for 120 LDA posts on its website and specified that the candidates eligible to apply should belong to Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia in Assam and Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh. As per OIL's policy, only unemployed youths of those districts where OIL have areas of operation are eligible to apply.
The AASU activists demanded that OIL should stop its discriminatory policy and unemployed youths of Jorhat district should also be allowed to apply for the 120 posts of LDA advertised in OIL's website as OIL also had a big installation here. The activists also threatened closure of all activities of OIL if the company did not include Jorhat.
AASU Jorhat district committee president Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi said that it would not be tolerated if Jorhat was excluded, as especially during these pandemic times there were a large number of qualified unemployed youths in Jorhat looking for jobs. The student body submitted a memorandum to the CMD, OIL through the General Manager, PDS Murthy stationed here, demanding the inclusion of Jorhat in OIL's advertisement.
