COVID Relief Distribution Scam

MORIGAON: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Morigaon district committee has demanded the Deputy Commissioner to initiate probe into the alleged misuse of COVID relief in the district.
The organization has demanded the Deputy Commissioner to take legal action against the officials who were allegedly involved in corruption in the name of distribution of relief to COVID patients. In the memorandum, the organization said that the Chief Minister of Assam had directed to provide packets of food of Rs 2,000 to each family affected by COVID-19 and under containment zone. AASU alleged that rampant corruption had taken place in the distribution of COVID relief in the greater Charaibahi mouza.
AASU president Dipul Nath and general secretary Rupjyoti Medhi said, "The district administration had declared the Charaibahi mouza under Mikirbheta revenue circle as containment zone from May 8 to May 21. But unfortunately, not a single poor family got COVID relief, even after the Chief Minister's directive came on May 17."
They also alleged that a section of corrupt officials under Morigaon revenue circle had been providing food packets of just Rs 800-Rs 900 instead of Rs 2,000 as per government order. AASU expressed resentment over the alleged corruption in distribution of COVID relief.
