NAGAON: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Friday urged the Nagaon administration to take stern steps against the ongoing drugs racket in the district. AASU activists carried out a protest drive in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner Jadav Saikia and later submitted a memorandum in support of their demands. On Wednesday, a 13-year old girl died in hospital after she was admitted by family members in a critical condition. The girl, a Class IX student of a private school, had allegedly taken drugs with the help of her friends in Nagaon bypass. Police later arrested five persons, including three of her friends and two pharmacy owners. Conscious citizens have alleged an unholy nexus between a section of police personnel and drug peddlers in the district.
