All Bodo Students’ Union declares resumption of agitation against BU VC from December 4

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has announced the resumption of the series of agitations demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh for his involvement in corruption cases in the varsity, following a brief hiatus of temporary suspension of agitation due to the visit of an NAAC inspection team to Bodoland University (BU).

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has announced the resumption of the series of agitations demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh for his involvement in corruption cases in the varsity, following a brief hiatus of temporary suspension of agitation due to the visit of an NAAC inspection team to Bodoland University (BU).

At a press meet held at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar on Tuesday, the president of ABSU Dipen Boro said the Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Khataria assured the delegation of ABSU and Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) to remove Prof Laishram Ladu Singh from the position of VC of Bodoland University after inspection of NAAC team visit in the BU within November 16 but despite this fact the Governor has failed to keep his assurance.

“Now, there is no option left for the ABSU other than series of agitation against VC of BU,” he said adding that the ABSU has decided series of agitation from December 4 followed by non cooperation, human chain at BU, burning of effigies, locking of office chamber of VC, hunger strike and ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ rally. He said ABSU will not compromise on corruption done by Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh, VC of BU because he was involved in several corruptions in the university. He also said BU will not develop with Laishram Ladu Singh and thus ABSU will continue its democratic movement demanding action against VC Singh. He further demanded that Singh must be initiated for action even before an hour of his superannuation in February next year.

Boro said ABSU had no other option but to declare series of movement for immediate expulsion of Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh. ABSU has declared 6-hour dharna, “Students Satyagraha” on December 4 in front of the Bodoland University with the support of 30 students and community organizations of BTR (CCBTRO), Tala Bandh at Bodoland University on December 5, rally and effigy burning at district headquarters of BTR on December 6, discussion with Principals & HoDs of affiliated colleges and University for “No-co-operation” on December 7, discussion with College union bodies and various committees, students for “Non-co-operation” on December 8, 3-hour “Human Chain” at Bodoland University on December 9 and “Raj Bhawan Chalo” rally on December 15.
