Kokrajhar: The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Tuesday called on the Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU) and demanded that the seats for PG at BU should be increased and Bodo should be one of the languages to write PhD thesis. The delegation of ABSU was led by assistant general secretary Kwrwmdao Wary and education secretary Kastom Basumatary.

After the meeting, the assistant general secretary of the ABSU, Kwrwmsai Wary said that due to the present pandemic COVID- 19 situation, educational activities had been affected in the whole world and in this connection the ABSU drew attention of the VC of the only university in lower Assam and BTR region to take urgent initiatives to increase the PG seats. He said it was due to the present situation that many students were unable to go to universities in other places for pursuing postgraduate studies. He urged the Bodoland University to facilitate more admission into postgraduate courses in all departments by increasing the possible number of seats.

Wary said that the Bodo language was one of the Eight Schedule languages under the Constitution of India. "ABSU urges Bodoland University to make it convenient to write and submit PhD thesis in Bodo language across all disciplines in the university," he said, adding that this would be an honour to the Bodo language which had a long history of struggle for existence in educational institutions.
