KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Tuesday expressed strong resentment over the Council Head of the Department (CHD), Urban Development and Town and Country Planning Langkeswar Wary for neglecting Bodo language in the official and other non official signboards indicating the location of roads of Kokrajhar town. The ABSU demanded that the CHD should give clarification within seven days as to why the Bodo language was not used in the signboards despite being official language of BTC and associate official language of Assam.

In a press conference held at Bodofa House, the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro said the department of Urban Development brought a project for erecting signboards showing directions in every corner of roads in Kokrajhar town. He said the signboards were written only in English ignoring the Bodo and Assamese languages. He slammed the CHD for disrespecting the mother tongues of the State and demanded that the Bodo and Assamese languages must be included very soon and warned the CHD to stay away from playing with the sentiment of Bodo people. He also warned that the ABSU will sit for protest demonstration in front of CHD, Urban Development if the concerned department fails to include Bodo within seven days.

ABSU president said the leader of ABMSU Moinul Hoque and BPF leader and MLA Durga Das Boro were trying to politicize the issue but he cautioned them not to bring misunderstanding among the people as ABSU has equal respect to every language of the state. He said the ABSU wanted the use of Bodo, Assamese and English in every official signboard in BTC.
