KOKRAJHAR: All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) activists issued a warning on Tuesday, stating that if the Assam government and Governor do not respond by October 20, they will begin its series of protests against the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University on October 21.

At a press meet held at Bodofa House on Tuesday, the vice president of the ABSU Kwrwmdao Wary said the ABSU has temporarily suspended its series of agitation against VC of Bodoland University Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh demanding his removal from the university after the Principal Secretary of BTC Akash Deep invited them and arranged a meeting with BTC Chief Pramod Boro recently. He said ABSU while respecting the proposed NAAC team’s visit in the Bodoland University on October 15,17 and 18 and BTC’s appeal to pursue the government of Assam for initiating action, they temporarily suspended the agitation programme till October 18. He said the NAAC team’s visit has been deferred and there is no response from the government of Assam and Raj Bhavan regarding the taking of action against the corrupt VC.

Wary said the Raj Bhavan assured ABSU to invite them to Governor House on October 20 to discuss the issue but there had been no immediate communication with them. He said the ABSU wanted fair solution on the issue by October 20 failing of which they will have no other option but to resume stronger agitational programmes.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma while talking to media persons during his Kokrajhar visit recently said he was not happy with the administration of VC of Bodoland University Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh and said if he was a wise person he would have stepped down on moral ground much earlier but he is continuing in his position as VC though he was accused of involvement in corruption. He also said VC Singh had degraded the reputation of Bodoland University.
