Alumni meet, media interactive session held in North Lakhimpur College

LAKHIMPUR: The Department of Mass Communication, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) organized its first chapter of the alumni meet on Saturday.

Notably, the Department of Mass Communication is one of the major department of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), which was established in 2015. This department offers two different types of courses- MA in Mass Communication (time duration-2 years) and 1 year Diploma Course in Mass Communication. The department also organizes two mega festivals- CommoStrenuous (Media Carnival), and La Lanscapee (photography exhibition) every year.

The agenda of the event, held in the digital classroom of the college began with lighting of ceremonial lamp and inaugural speech by Dr Biman Chandra Chetia, the Principal of the college. In his speech, Dr Chetia called upon the alumni and present students of the department to carry on ethical journalism, as professionals, with social responsibility for the amelioration of the society. Then North Lakhimpur Press Club (NLPC) president Kumud Baruah inaugurated a plantation drive.

In connection with the event, an interactive session with the Lakhimpur headquarter journalists-cum-North Lakhimpur Press Club members, titled as ‘Como Estas’, was organized on a theme ‘Status of Lakhimpur in Journalism’. The session commenced with NLPC president Kumud Baruah in the chair and it was held under the management of secretary Karuna Krishna Nath. Taking part in the event, senior journalists Sailen Baruah, Ranjit Kakati, Kumud Saikia, Manab Jyoti Saikia Hemanta Bez, Bubul Hazarika, Neel Paban Sabhapandit interacted with the alumni and the present students on the designated theme, ethical journalism, social responsibility in journalism, present trend of journalism, physical, social, financial security of the journalists etc. Amaresh Baruah, the Head, and other faculties of the department also actively participated in the interactive session.
