SILCHAR: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Alumni Association with congenial friends from overseas have joined the race to help people in the worst ever human crisis Covid 19 which is taking unchecked human toll, affecting the families in various dimensions. The sufferings, the mental and physical agonies are many and are ever increasing without any sign of abatement. Identifying themselves as "Niswartha Barak Seva," a group of ex students of 1955-99 batch of NIT, originally from Barak Valley, have come together to support their brothers and sisters in this crisis and help them to fight against Corona pandemic.

The group have handed over necessary non medical equipments like 62.5 KVA generator set, four 1.5 ton split ac units, one 231 litres refrigerator, 4 computers, one KVA UPS and also requisite fund for RT-PCR lab cabins among others with donations from their batch mates and many of their friends spread all over the world. This noble initiative has made another RT-PCR machine from PM CARE Fund operational from May 18 at SMCH. Earlier a single RT-PCR machine was taking load of huge number of tests.

"Niswartha Barak Seva" as the name indicates, pointed out an ex student without being identified, is to work for society without any expectations. APJ Abdul Kalam used to say while addressing youths, "The society has given you enough. Now, think, what have you to give to society." They are reminded of the words of Bill Gate, a person's most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others." The alumnus said, "We are working with the sole objective of helping Barak people."
