Amal Sengupta, Noted social worker passes away

Amal Sengupta, noted social worker and a cultural activist, a resident of Tezpur Police Reserve area and former treasurer of Tezpur Bangali Aboitanik Natya Samaj and life member of Axom Xahitya Xabha passed away due to cardiac arrest at his residence on Friday.

TEZPUR: Amal Sengupta, noted social worker and a cultural activist, a resident of Tezpur Police Reserve area and former treasurer of Tezpur Bangali Aboitanik Natya Samaj and life member of Axom Xahitya Xabha passed away due to cardiac arrest at his residence on Friday. He was 54. He leaves behind his wife, son and one daughter and a host of relatives.

Sengupta was closely associated with many social organizations, including Tezpur Xahitya Xabha, Sonitpur Journalist Union, Bengali theatre, Assam Repertory, Nabaranga, Bhoomi etc. Besides having involvement in many social and cultural organizations here he was the producer of Assamese TV serial “Vastab” and associated producer of many documentary films. He was also the production contractor of Assam Repertory and member of ‘Mati Akhara’ a socio cultural organization of Tezpur.

Sonitpur Press Club, Sonitpur Journalist Union, Bhoomi, Jangam, Tezpur Xahitya Xabha, Nabaranga, Assam Repertory, Joymoti Sangha, Sonitpur Silpi Samaj, Grahan Udyan Samittee and hundreds of cultural activists, social workers, members of various cultural groups and organisations, local artistes and Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava, Member of Tezpur Bangali Aboitanik Natya Samaj, Gautam Maitra, Biswajit Purkayastha, Keshab Das paid floral tributes to him and also condoled his demise. His cremation took place at Marabharali Par cremation ground. In his condolence message, secretary of Tezpur Bangali Aboitanik Natya Samaj, Gautam Maitra said “Amal Sengupta’s contributions to the growth of society in the Greater Tezpur would be remembered for generations to come. He was not only a cultural activists and social worker but also very amiable person and the contribution he had made in the field of social and culture were truly outstanding and unforgettable. I convey my sympathy to the bereaved family.”
