Amrit Kalash Yatra programme under urban local bodies held in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG: The Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign, which is the nationwide programme to mark the culminating event of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, is taking place all over the district of Dima Hasao with full fervour in different blocks and urban local bodies (ULB). Nojit Kemprai, Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, attended the Amrit Kalash Yatra programme organized at Haflong on Sunday. Along with him, District Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Simanta Kumar Das was also present.

The mitti (soil) collected from the villages under the five urban local bodies viz. Umrangso, Maibang, Mahur, Harangajao and Langting, including Haflong Municipal Board, during the village-level Kalash Yatras was brought to Haflong at the ULB level programmes. The mitti or soil brought from different ULBs were poured and mixed and later filled into a larger Kalash at the function to be later held at the State-level.

During the programme, chief guest Nojit Kemprai spoke about the significance of the Amrit Kalash Yatra and how this is going to help in uniting the whole nation as one. He also expressed profound gratitude to the martyrs and luminaries who have contributed to the nation’s progress, emphasizing the campaign’s significance in preserving their legacy.

Dima Hasao DC Simanta Kumar Das, stating the significance of the entire proramme, said that the soil collected from the homes of martyrs, statues of eminent social personalities, other prominent places of historical relevance were collected from various villages keeping in mind the emotions of the people as the soil mixes with the soil from the other parts of the country at the Amrit Vatika. Sanaba Singha, Executive Officer of Haflong Municipal Board, in his welcome speech briefed about the programme and also the objective of the entire campaign. The ULB level programme was attended by Assistant Commissioner Biplabjoy Purkayastha, and other dignitaries.
