Anganwadi workers demand increment of wages, staged protest in Udalguri district

TANGLA: The Anganwadi workers and helpers of Udalguri district staged a protest programme in demand of allocation of budget fund for modernization of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and enhancement of their remuneration, at Bhergaon in Udalguri district on Monday.

More than a hundred Anganwadi workers and helpers staged demonstration demanding modern infrastructure of the Anganwadi centres, increment of honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers, grant of one-time aid of Rs 5 lakh on retirement, among others.

"The wages have not been revised in 10 years and the workers are facing problems in managing their families with such a meagre income," Somsree Narzary, an Anganwadi worker.

"We have been deprived of justice as the government has never paid heed to our demands,''said Aruna Boro Rajbongshi, another Anganwadi worker.
