Animal health camp held by Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department of Udalguri

KALAIGAON: Animal health camp-cum-vaccination programme was organized by Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department of Udalguri under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) in various places of Udalguri districtin order to extend a helping hand to the livestock farmers where the Udalguri district Veterinary department gave the Foot & Mouth Disease ( FMD) vaccination to more than 1 lakh animals in first phase recently. According to the veterinary officials, Brucellosis is another bacterial disease of animals causing premature birth from pregnant heifer & cow which leads to arthritis in cows. At this condition, Brucella vaccine can prevent the disease like Brucellosis after inoculating the vaccine to the female calf of 4-8 months age.

Meanwhile, District Veterinary Officer Dr. NC Kalita said that Brucella vaccination programme is being conducted under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) scheme and 1300 female calves were vaccinated in Udalguri district. A pox like viral disease which is known as Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and the disease created more problems to the farmers affecting the cattle population, Kalita added. Udalguri district is yet to get rid of the African swine fever that broke out this year. It is also another fatal disease of pigs. The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary of Udalguri already identified 7 ASF epicentres in the district. So, the District Veterinary Office of Udalguri has been organizing awareness camp among the farmers to overcome the disease. District Veterinary Officer also said that they received 48,000 dosages of classical ASF vaccine to prevent the fatal disease.
