Annual convention of Demow Press Club concludes

DEMOW: The Demow Press Club, which was established in the year 1993, has completed glorious 29 years. An annual convention of Demow Press Club and Dr Bhupen Hazarika (Sudhakanta Divas) was organized in Demow Jyoti-Bishnu Cultural Building on Friday and Saturday with a two-day long programme.

As per the schedule on Friday, the programme started with flag hoisting by Umesh Chetia, president of Demow Press Club. The swahid tarpan was offered by Utpal Dowerah, secretary of Demow Press Club. An All Assam Basis Bhupendra Sangeet Competition was organized on Friday which was inaugurated by Dr Gitali Saikia, Head of the English Department in HCDG College Nitaipukhuri.

On Saturday, which was the second day of the programme, the programme started with an art competition where the students of the area participated. Later, a special extempore speech programme was organized where Mayur Borah, renowned writer, was present in the programme as orator. Mayur Borah was welcomed and felicitated by the members of Demow Press Club with a phulam gamosa, cheleng sadar, a memento and a citation. A special extempore speech programme was organized on the topic 'Role of Media and Media Persons in Development of a Society'. Mayur Borah spoke broadly on the topic. After that an open session was held which was presided over by Umesh Chetia. In the open session, the founder of Demow Press Club and former media persons of Demow Press Club were felicitated with cheleng sadar, a certificate and a memento. In the evening, the ceremonial lamp was lit in front of the photo of Dr Bhupen Hazarika by Kandarpa Sagar Dehingia, a social worker. A documentary prepared by Demow Press Club on Dr Bhupen Hazarika was screened.

The winners of the All Assam Basis Bhupendra Sangeet competition and drawing competition were given prizes with cash, memento and a certificate. A cultural programme was organized on Saturday evening where popular singers and local students performed songs and dances. The two-day long programme concluded on Saturday evening.
