Annual Teachers’ Memorial Lecture delivered by Tinsukia College unit of ACTA

TINSUKIA: In sync with the observance of Teachers’ Day, the annual Teachers’ Memorial Lecture was organized by the Tinsukia College unit of ACTA. The programme began with paying of floral tribute on the portraits of 40 departed teachers of the college by the principal, Dr Surjya Chutia followed by a chorus honouring the teachers by the faculty members of the college.

The memorial lecture titled ‘A quest for the roots of the conflicts’ was delivered by Prasanta Rajguru, eminent journalist, who presented a critical analysis on the types of conflicts like structural and cultural violence with extrinsic and intrinsic components citing several examples. He also dwelt at length on the ongoing Manipur ethnic conflicts- its genesis to the present aggressive stature. The event, presided over by Pranab Kumar Dutta, vice president of ACTA unit of Tinsukia College, was attended by the former and present teachers of the college. All former teachers were felicitated with phulam gamosa on the occasion.

The Tinsukia district administration also observed the Teachers’ Day centrally at Bengali Girls’ Higher Secondary School Tinsukia. The programme started with laying of flowers at the portrait of eminent philosopher Pandit Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and lighting of ceremonial lamps. The District Commissioner of Tinsukia, Swapneel Paul was the chief guest. The programme was attended by senior journalist Arup Borkatoky as the keynote speaker. Ten teachers of Tinsukia district were felicitated by the district education department.

Speaking at the Teachers’ Day programme, District Commissioner Paul said that teachers had an immense responsibility in building a progressive country and society and schools should work together to make every student a good citizen of the country. Additional District Commissioner of Education Sonatrishna Gharpholia, former chairman of SEBA Dhandev Mohanta, retired Principal of Senairam HS School Dunduvi Bhattacharyya and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
