KARIMGANJ: Assam Police has reached another major success in their fight against drugs across the state. In an operation carried out on Tuesday, Karimganj Police was successful in capturing 2.5 kilograms of heroin.

A huge amount of this illegal narcotic was found packed across 194 soap boxes. These boxes were hidden in a four-wheeler near the Assam-Mizoram-Tripura trijunction area. Two suspects have also been apprehended along with this huge consignment of heroin. They are said to belong to the Karimganj and the Hailakandi regions of Assam respectively.

Karimganj Police made two more breakthroughs on Monday when they captured huge amounts of cannabis. The captured consignment had a total of 3243 kilograms of ganja and one person was apprehended by the police personnel. The narcotics were concealed inside a consignment of empty sacks coming from a neighboring state. The second operation led to the capture of two people and a Maruti Alto vehicle. 215 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from their possession.

On the previous day, that is on last Sunday, another large consignment of ganja was recovered from a truck coming from a neighboring state. The vehicle had 2400 kilos of cannabis packed inside metal drums and transported. Two were arrested in connection to this capture as well.

These cases are the result of a severe crackdown by Assam police on drug peddlers and supplies across the state. During his last visit to Assam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had asked the Superintendents of Police posted in various locations to be very strict in matters related to narcotics. Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma had maintained a similar stance since the day he took the position.

Not only do these narcotics directly affect health in an adverse way, but the money from such businesses often goes towards funding antisocial and antinational elements.
