Guwahati: Another person accused of rape-cum-murder of a seven-year-old girl was killed in an alleged encounter in Assam's Udalguri district on Wednesday.
According to reports, Rajesh Munda, 38, received bullet injuries after he attempted to escape from the police custody at Majbat. Later, he was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Interestingly, this is the second incident in the past 24 hours in the state as on Tuesday night, Biki Ali, an accused in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl, was killed in police firing by Guwahati Police.
''We registered a case about the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl. Based on our investigation, the accused named Rajesh Munda was nabbed on Tuesday from afactory in Baihata Chariali,'' said said Bidyut Das Boro, additional superintendent of police, Udalguri.
He further said that the accused escaped from custody around 2:30 AM on Wednesday while being taken to the place of crime.
''In a bid to stop him from running away, the police team fired some shots in which he was injured. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,'' he added.
