Anti-Citizenship Amendment Bill protest in Sivasagar, Protesters blocked Road

SIVASAGAR: A day after total shutdown in Sivasagar to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, protests again erupted, when the legislation was debated in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Though no organisation has called for a shut down on Wednesday, people have come out in large numbers from every nook and corner to join the protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar led by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader Akhil Gogoi.

Meanwhile, protesters from various organizations have blocked roads at various places. Tyres were burnt on the roads and NH-37 to stop movement of vehicles. On the other hand, hundreds of members of AASU led by its education secretary Sarat Hazarika, Sivasagar district general secretary Samiran Phukan, Pradip Borgohain and others staged a sit-in as ‘Gana Sankalpa Divas’ at Muktinath Chariali near Barat Jewellery to protest the Bill in the evening.
