DIGBOI: In order to commemorate the country’s 73rd Independence Day, in Margherita subdivision a mammoth anti-drug awareness rally was conducted on Wednesday morning en-rooting several drug-hit pockets of the subdivision in Tinsukia district.
The bike and four-wheeler rally which was organized by Margherita Excise Department, in association with the inter-state peace committee (Peace Initiatives) and Bargolai New Life Foundation, was flagged off by Shunamini Singha, the Deputy Superintendent, Excise department of Margherita Circle, in Margherita public auditorium.
Youths from various nearby drug-hit locations under Pengaree police station, officials and staff of various coordinating departments, members and office bearers of various NGOs, reformed and rehabilitated youths of the areas participated in the rally with pamphlets, placards and banners, subsequently passing through several drug-infested areas in Segunbari, Nagapather, Inthem, Pengaree, Brahmajan. Finally en-rooting Digboi, the rally culminated at Margherita Block Tinali.
Addressing the youths earlier during the flag off ceremony, Singha highlighted the objectives of the rally and said that the increasing drug menace in the area had been a cause of grave concern for the civil society and urged the youths in particular to shun the path of addiction to any form of contraband substance and also to help reform the addicts by means of counselling and creating awareness among the victims of addiction.
