Anti-Drugs Mission Assam: Karbi Anglong Police Confiscate 1.7 Kg Heroin, Two Accused Detained

GUWAHATI: On May 19, Karbi Anglong police while intercepting a truck on the Bokolia bypass in Manipur, recovered 136 soap boxes with 1.7 kg Heroin and arrested two accused. On the other hand, Assam CM applauded Assam Police’s effort and wrote,” #AssamAgainstDrugs @karbianglongpol intercepted a truck at Bokolia bypass and recovered 136 soap cases containing Heroin (weighing 1.7 kg approximately). Two accused have been apprehended.

Meanwhile, on Friday Sadia Police recovered brown and confirmed the news on Twitter,” recovered 02 (two) plastic soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 22g from Gurung Basti under Sadiya Police Station. 01 (One) person has been arrested in this regard & legal formalities are being initiated.”

According to a report, in the last two years, the Assam government has seized narcotics worth Rs. 1430 cr and arrested 9309 individuals in drug-related activities.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma twitted, “In last 2 years, we have waged the most effective war against drugs, inflicting severe damage on consumption and supply networks.

Narcotics worth Rs 1430 cr has been seized, 9309 people arrested, 420 acres of cannabis and opium cultivation destroyed.”

On the other hand, in an effort to curb the drug scourge, the Kabristan Committee in central Assam's Morigaon district has decided to restrict the participation and burial of those who died as a result of drug intake or involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Meanwhile, in April, Karbi Anglong police apprehended a truck coming from nearby Manipur on Friday night and recovered 116 soap boxes with 1.3 kg of Heroin hidden under the vehicle's tarpaulin at Lahorijan.

In addition, two people were arrested in connection with the investigation.

The cops seized a significant amount of narcotics and other illegal substances from the hideout. An inquiry is currently being conducted to identify any other members of the drug trafficking network who may have been involved in the incident.
