LAKHIMPUR: APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Bhupen Borah has said that the inter-State border dispute had turned critical due to the lack of far-sightedness and extreme failure in realizing the situation on the part of the leader of the State Government. He said this in Lakhimpur while interacting with media persons on Friday.

"The relation of Assam with the neighbouring States has critically deteriorated. It turned so critical that the police department of a neighbouring State had filed case against the Chief Minister. The main reason of such a situation is the lack of far-sightedness, effective plan to resolve the issue on the part of the leader of the present government. The international border issue is also involved with our State. Under such circumstances, if the issue deteriorates up to firing level, it is extreme failure on the part of the government," the APCC president said while criticizing the State Government in strong terms at a time when it is celebrating the successful completion of 100 days.

Further, the APCC president criticized the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government, alleging its failure to provide relief to the common people with the frequently changed SOPs adopted to control the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

"The non-planned lockdown, the consecutively imposed SOPs along with the shortage of vaccine have collapsed the economic foundation of the State. We hoped that the newly-formed State Government would provide relief to the affected poor and hardworking people, including the small-scale businessmen, by adopting schemes. But we did not see it," Borah added

He further alleged that the State Government had failed to control the sky-rocketing prices of the petro-products and other essential commodities during the past days. In connection, he said that the existing State Government had hurt the sentiment of the Assamese community.

"The present State Government has attempted to establish Shyama Prashad Mukharji, Din Dayal Upadhyay as 'Guru' by ignoring the prominent figures of the State, like Lachit Borphukan, Kanaklata, Mukunda Kakati, Chilarai, Sati Sadhani and Gopinath Bordoloi of contemporary time, whom we have regarded as our heroes," the APCC president said.

He criticized the Chief Minister for his declaration of building a Congress-free Assam. He obliquely called upon him to postpone the programme for a few years and asked to build a COVID-19-free and problem-free Assam.

Notably, the APCC president took part in the birth anniversary programme of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, organized by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee at Rajiv Bhavan covering the Lakhimpur, Bihpuriya, Naoboicha and Dhakuakhana LACs.
