DIBRUGARH: The Citizen Forum, Namrup on Friday sent a memorandum to President of India, Ram Nath Kovind for his intervention regarding setting up of BVFCL Namrup 4th plant.

Talking to The Sentinel, Tileswar Borah, general secretary of Citizen Forum, Namrup said, "We have sent a memorandum to the President of India appealing to him to intervene regarding the matter of setting up of BVFCL 4th unit. The government has been giving assurance of setting up the 4th unit but till date nothing has happened."

The memorandum stated that the Government of India had announced to set up a 'Brown Field Project' in the name of Namrup- 4 plant during the visit of the Union Minister of Fertilizers and Chemicals to Namrup on 26-6-2006, which created high hope and aspirations in the minds of the people of Assam. But 16 years have already passed and no final outcome has emerged till now for setting up of the new plant.

It further stated that the Government of India had decided to revive a few closed fertilizer units like Ramakundam of Telangana; Talchar of Orissa, Sindri of Bihar maintaining the nomination systems of certain sound public sector enterprises for investment in these closed plants. After completion of construction works of these plants, production has already started. But in the case of Namrup 4th Plant, the proposal is still on paper.

The Citizen Forum, Namrup appealed to the President to take steps for revival of the only fertilizer plant in the region and to fulfil the long-cherished desire and aspirations of the people of Assam.
