Arms and ammunition recovered in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar police led by DSP HQ on Friday carried out search operation and recovered three AK-56 rifles, one magazine and 65 rounds of AK series ammunition from ride no 4-5 in Ultapani reserve forest under Kokrajhar police station.

Talking to reporters at the SP office on Saturday evening, the special DGP and IGP, BTC- LR Bishnoi said the police team could recover the arms and ammunitions concealed in the deep jungle based on information from an arrested miscreant on Friday in Karigaon area. He said that there had been a case of loot at Bandhan Bank in Srirampur on April 26 and the arrested person could have been involved in the incident.

Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan said that one person named Panjit Seal Basumatary of Samthaibari of Chirang district sustained bullet injuries in the leg during a shootout on Friday evening at 9.30 pm near Karigaon and was arrested by police. He said that the police team seized a Bolero, 7.65 mm pistol and ammunition from the possession of Panjit Seal Basumatary while another person, Swrang Narzary of Bollamguri, now Runikhata of Chirang district, could manage to flee. Both of them could have been involved in the Bandhan Bank robbery, he said, adding that the police team would nab the miscreant who fled.
