DHUBRI: In order to empower the women, Panbari Battalion of the Red Horns Division provided 10 handloom machines at Singhimari Village of Kokrajhar district under Operation Sadbhavana on Thursday.

The village of Singhimari is located around 35 km away from the bustling town of Kokrajhar and has been affected by insurgency for more than two decades. This has led to acute poverty among the villagers.

The aim of the project was to empower the economically disadvantaged women folk of Singhimari village and mitigate their hardships by providing a sustainable skill-based income generating alternative. A total of 10 handloom machines were provided to the women.

Niropama Barman, one of the beneficiaries, expressed happiness on account of the likely revival of fading artisan weaving art which used to be popular in every household of Assam during her childhood. :The initiative by the Indian Army will definitely bring financial stability to my family and others," she added. The ceremony was attended by SDO (Civil) of Parbatjhora subdivision, Satish Kumar Thakur and BDO of Mahamaya Development Block, Dhrubjyoti Hathibarua.
