Around 61 percent voter turnout recorded in Dhekiajuli LAC

Polling for the first phase election in Dhekiajuli constituency concluded at 6 pm on Saturday with sporadic incidents in some parts.

DHEKIAJULI: Polling for the first phase election in Dhekiajuli constituency concluded at 6 pm on Saturday with sporadic incidents in some parts. The fate of Congress (I) candidate Benudhar Nath, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashok Singhal, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Shatrughnna Sasoni, BGP candidate Sanjoy Dey, Independent candidate Tarun Sahu and Voter's International Party candidate Ranjoy Basumatary were sealed in the EVMs.

Congress (I) candidate Benudhar Nath cast his vote at Promod Bidyapith Hindi School polling station early on Saturday morning while Ashok Singhal cast his vote at Bhotpara Polling Station. Long queues of people were seen in different polling stations of Dhekiajuli since morning. The voter turnout in the constituency till 6 pm was around 61 per cent.

By and large the polling in Dhekiajuli was peaceful except one incident which took place at Dhekiajuli Forest Office polling station where the supporters of two political parties clashed with each other. Dhekiajuli Police took timely action and brought the situation under control.
