Around Rs 1 lakh fine collected in one day for not wearing masks in Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI: With spike in COVID-19 positive cases, the Hailakandi district police is ruthlessly enforcing wearing of mask or face cover to arrest the spread of the contagious disease.

Disclosing this, Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath said a total of Rs 99,100 has been realized by way of fines on a single day by the district police against offenders for non wearing of masks or face cover and for pillion riding on Tuesday. Rs.47,500 have been realized for not wearing masks while Rs 51,600 for pillion riding under six police stations across the district.

Nath further revealed that a policeman has been penalized and fine realized for breaking law vis-a-vis non-wearing of mask and pillion riding. "We will ruthlessly enforce wearing of masks and other rules and regulations in view of the COVID-19 outbreak and will not even spare our own police personnel if found on the wrong side of the law," said Nath.

The district police have seized 672 vehicles, including six for lockdown violations on Tuesday.

591 two-wheelers, 37 three-wheelers and 44 four-wheelers have been seized so far. Total fine realized under the Motor Vehicle Act since the beginning of lockdown is 6,19,950.

Altogether 58 cases have been registered and 277 persons arrested since the beginning of lockdown.
