‘Artificial intelligence will impact upon job security, ethics of media and creativity’

Along with the rest of the nation, the National Press Day was celebrated in Lakhimpur district too on Thursday in order to commemorate the establishment and functioning of the Press Council of India.

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the nation, the National Press Day was celebrated in Lakhimpur district too on Thursday in order to commemorate the establishment and functioning of the Press Council of India.

In this connection, Lakhimpur district administration and Office of the District Information and Public Relation organized a seminar on “Media in the era of artificial intelligence”, the theme of the National Press Day this year. The seminar was held in collaboration with Lakhimpur District Journalists’ Association (LDJA) under the management of DIPRO Mandira Chayengiya. The agenda of the event began with the presentation of Asom Sangeet, wherein the DIPRO explained the objective of the programme and delivered the welcome address.

Lakhimpur District Development Commissioner Utpal Borah attended the event as chief guest. He extended warm wishes to the media fraternity on the occasion and appreciated Lakhimpur journalists for their dedicated service for the all-round development of the district. He assured that the district administration would take all possible steps to work for the district by coordinating with the media in the upcoming days too.

North Lakhimpur Press Club president Kumud Baruah, working president Dipen Borah, senior journalist Jiban Goswami, LDJA secretary Mukul Bhuyan attended the event as guests of honour. Kumud Baruah shed light on the theme and also expressed resentment over the lackadaisical attitude on the part of the incumbent State government towards the issues of the journalists and non-implementation of the schemes taken and declared for their benefits.

Journalists Ranjit Kakati took part in the seminar as appointed speaker on the designated theme. In his lecture, the appointed speaker highlighted the present concept of media, present trend of media in India and Assam, definition of artificial intelligence, advantage and disadvantage of artificial intelligence in media. While shedding light on the disadvantage of artificial intelligence in media, he remarked that artificial intelligence would impact adversely upon job security of working persons, ethics of media, creativity and empathy, reliability and trust and lead over dependency on technology. Another speaker, journalist Bubul Hazarika also delivered lecture on the theme. Journalist Himadri Dihingiya recited a poem while Farhana Ahmed shared her thought on the occasion. Lakhimpur district administration and Office of the District Information and Public Relation feted the journalists of the district who were present in the event from various Press Clubs and Guilds.
