DOOMDOOMA: The third death anniversary of Girish Barpatra Gohain, former secretary, Asam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS) and a prominent trade union leader, was observed by ACKS, Doomdooma Branch on Thursday.
The programme got underway with lighting of ceremonial of lamp in front of the portrait of the Barpatra Gohain by leading social activist, Journalist Arjun Baruah. The commemorative meeting began thereafter with branch President Uma Nanda Dutta in the chair. The meeting was anchored by branch Secretary Hitendra Kumar Baruah and was attended by the office bearers and members of the branch as well as the office bearers of the tea gardens under the jurisdiction of the branch.
Journalist Arjun Baruah reminisced on the life and achievements of Barpatra Gohain.The branch decided to celebrate the day by holding seminars on two topics. Anirban Deb, Legal Adviser, ACKS dwelt on the topic ‘Dispute Settlement Process’ of the trade unions for the benefit of the tea workers. The union central general secretary, Rishabh Kalita delivered a speech on ‘Constitutional responsibilities of members of the ACKS at present’.
During the discussion, secretary Kalita urged the tea workers to continue performing their duties faithfully and urged them to settle the disputes through dialogue if possible. He also appealed to the office bearers concerned to focus on meeting the interests of the employees rather than focusing on their own benefits during the settlement of disputes.
