Asha workers convention held in Sivasagar

At the initiative of Sivasagar District Health Committee, a convention for Asha workers was held at Milon Mandir in Sivasagar town

SIVASAGAR: At the initiative of Sivasagar District Health Committee, a convention for Asha workers was held at Milon Mandir in Sivasagar town on Tuesday.

Bhupendra Kumar Das, Joint Director, Health Services, Sivasagar presided over the meeting, which was attended by Megha Nidhi Dahal, Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar as chief guest.

Manab Kumar Baruah, Secretary, Rotary Club, Sivasagar, Dr Lalit Bora, retired Joint Director, Health Services, Sivasagar, Dr Sabita Neog, General Manager, ONGC, noted social worker Monika Saikia were also present on the occasion.

National Health Mission was formed in 2005 and Asha workers were engaged to take the various healthcare schemes among the masses. At present, Asha workers are engaged in 77 different types of health services. In addition to the various services related to health, the Asha workers are also providing various types of support as and when required.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the contribution of Asha workers in reducing maternal mortality rate and neonatal mortality rate was immense.

A total of 734 Asha workers in the district have been providing services to the health department as well as various departments at different times. A total of 19 Asha workers and 6 Asha Supervisors of 6 Primary Health Centres were awarded for their contribution by the Deputy Commissioner.
