Ashes of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi immersed in River Ranganadi

The ashes of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi were immersed in the holy water of River Ranganadi following religious traditions under the auspices of Lakhimpur district Congress Committee (LDCC) on Friday.

LAKHIMPUR: The ashes of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi were immersed in the holy water of River Ranganadi following religious traditions under the auspices of Lakhimpur district Congress Committee (LDCC) on Friday.

On this occasion, LDCC organized a special shraddhanjali (tribute paying) programme at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town. In the programme, various organizations and institutions, including Freedom Fighters' Association, Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha, Lakhimpur district unit of Communist Party of India, Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad and Muslim Gana Mancha, paid rich tribute to the veteran political leader.

Attending the programme, Tarun Gogoi's son and deputy leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, GauravGogoi, deputy leader of Congress Legislative Party, Rockybul Hussain, former cabinet minister Bharat Narah, Rajib Lochan Pegu, Rajya Sabha MP Rani Narah, LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das, former Lakhimpur MLA Ghana Buragohain and other dignitaries, also paid deep tribute to Tarun Gogoi. It was followed by an all-religious prayer programme which started with the presentation of Diha Naam under the auspices of Lakhimpur district unit Mahila Congress.

In connection with the programme, a commemoration programme was also organized under the management of LDCC general secretary Gangajyoti Tayegam, wherein LDXX president Bipul Sarmah Baruah, Axam Xahitya Xabha vice-president Dr. Hemanta Kumar Baruah, Freedom Fighters'Association president Bholanath Nagaria, Gaurav Gogoi, Rajib Lochan Pegu, Bharat Chandra Narah and Dr. Joy Prakash Das delivered speech commemorating the former Chief Minister. In his speech, Gaurav Gogoi stated that he would endeavour to continue his attempts to realize the dream of his father Tarun Gogoi to build a greater Assam with peace, progress, prosperity and communal harmony and integrity.

"Following his ideology, I am committed to work for the people of the State with a view to empower the down-trodden," Gaurav Gogoi stated. The LDCC took out a Shanti Sadbhavana Yatra on Friday with the ashes of Tarun Gogoi, the urn of which reached Lakhimpur on Thursday. Then it was immersed in River Ranganadi.
