LAKHIMPUR: Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), under the aegis of the North Lakhimpur branch unit of the organization, observed the International Labour Day at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town on Monday with day-long programmes. The agenda of the event began with a plantation drive, inaugurated by Jiten Karmakar, former president of North Lakhimpur branch ACMS. It was followed by the unfurling of the organizational flag by president Haradhan Kalandi while adviser Jagadish Das conducted the smriti tarpan event.
In connection, a cultural rally, showcasing the native culture of the tea tribes with various folk dance forms and tableaux, was taken out in North Lakhimpur town. ACMS, North Lakhimpur unit of women wing president Gayatri Naik flagged off the cultural rally. It was followed by the open session of the event which commenced with president Haradhan Kalandi in the chair. ACMS central committee vice-president Nabin Chandra Keot was present in the programme as chief guest while Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah was present as guest of honour. Retired Labour Commissioner Joy Prakash Agarwal was present as appointed speaker of the event wherein MASS central committee secretary Raju Singha, ATTSA vice-president Arup Boraik, assistant general secretary Sunil Tirky were also present.
