JAGIROAD: The Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) central committee, in association with the workers and employees' union of the Nagaon Paper Mill (NPM) here, observed a two-hour long sit-in strike in front of the main gate of NPM on Thursday demanding fulfillment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call during the election campaign to revive both the public sector NPM and Cachar Paper Mill (CPM) of the Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC).

While addressing the sit-in, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the Modi-led Central Government in New Delhi preferred only to grab the resources of Assam and later hand it over to some of his favoured businessmen. He also criticized the present State Government for not taking steps to revive the paper mills. He further criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for their alleged communal politics and urged people to boycott such parties. He also assured revival of both the mills if the AJP came to power. The session was also addressed by AJP vice-president Adip Kumar Phukan and other leaders.
