LAKHIMPUR: AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad) will initiate intensified stir against National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited demanding the closure of the contentious Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) which is set up in a fragile hilly areas at Gerukamukh under Dhemaji district located in Assam Arunachal Pradesh border area.

This was informed by AJYCP general secretary Polash Changmai as per resolution taken in this regard at the extended central committee executive meeting of the organization held in Jorhat on Sunday. While talking to this correspondent, the general secretary of the organization further informed that the extended executive meeting took resolution to intensify the agitation against the controversial mega river dam project which has been carried out for years.

As a part of this resolution, decision was taken to constitute an anti-big river dam united forum (Nadibandh Birodhi Sangramee Aikya Mancha) covering the 960 villages located in the downstream of the Subansiri River which are apprehended to be adversely impacted by the project. Assistant general secretaries Ratul Borgohain and Sourabh Das has been shouldered the responsibility to initiate the required moves and to chalk out the agenda in this regard.

Further, the organization, according to another resolution taken in the extended executive meeting, has demanded the State Government to waive the microfinance loan to all, without categorizing and differentiating the borrower women as per promise made before the Assam Assembly Election — 2021.

On the other hand, the AJYCP has demanded to initiate immediate and necessary steps to complete the construction of the Majuli-Jorhat connecting bridge over the mighty Brahmaputra in declared and stipulated time for upgrading the communication system to Majuli and without allowing the declaration turn to be a political gimmick.
