Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad opposes increase in electricity tariff

Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad (AJYCP) has strongly opposed the recent increase in electricity tariff in Assam. In this connection, the members of the organization took to the street with protest programme in North Lakhimpur town on Tuesday and burnt the effigy of Power Minister Nandita Garlosa.

LAKHIMPUR: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad (AJYCP) has strongly opposed the recent increase in electricity tariff in Assam. In this connection, the members of the organization took to the street with protest programme in North Lakhimpur town on Tuesday and burnt the effigy of Power Minister Nandita Garlosa.

The people of Assam are currently facing difficulty with the increase in electricity tarriff once again. Of late, the new rates of charges were hiked for different usage tiers and they have become effective from October 1. For consumption up to 300 units of electricity, the increase is 30 paise per unit. Usage between 301 and 500 units is witnessing a 50-paise hike per unit, while consumption exceeding 500 units has incurred a substantial increase of Rs 1.29 per unit.

Lakhimpur AJYCP demanded the Government of Assam to withdraw this increase in the electricity charges. Attending the protest programme, which was conducted under the aegis of North Lakhimpur regional unit of the organization, Lakhimpur district AJYCP president Hiranya Dutta made a scathing attack on the Government of Assam regarding the issue. The protesters shouted various slogans by slamming the government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Power Minister Nandita Garlosa in this connection.
