ASRLM organized training programme on ornamental fisheries for SHGs

A 3-day training programme on ‘Backyard ornamental fish farming for livelihood improvement and rural development’ was organized by Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission

DHUBRI : A three-day training programme on 'Backyard ornamental fish farming for livelihood improvement and rural development' was organized by Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission under the supervision of the district administration of South Salmara Mankachar (SSM) district and in collaboration with ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Regional Centre (RC), Guwahati and Department of Fisheries, SSM district, for 30 fisherwomen members of 10 Self-help Groups (SHGs). It concluded on Thursday.

The training was successfully organized with active leadership of South Salmara- Mancachar Deputy Commissioner Pallavi Sarkar, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Dr. BK Das, Head, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati, and other dignitaries.

Self Help Group (SHG) fisher women were taught about prospects of ornamental fisheries in South Salmara Mankachar, varieties of fishes having ornamental values (both exotic and indigenous ones), breeding and culture of common ornamental fishes, handling, packing and transportation of fishes, their diseases and management. They were also explained about setting up of aquarium tanks and different accessories required for fish keeping. Preparation of low cost fish feed was demonstrated in the field
